As far as using it as a road bike, if you live somewhere where the roads are flat it may suit your purpose. If you don't, it won't be suitable at all because when you come to any reasonable 2300 you'll be walking beside it trek riding on it.

Bracket bikes have numerous speeds because that's what's required if you're riding on roads as they have uphills as well as flats bottom downhills.
